Traveling within the country or abroad, alone or with friends, you’ll need to keep a lot of safety precautions in mind. This will ensure a safe trip for you as well as your fellow travelers. The following 10 travel safety tips will save you a lot of hassle when you are out of home.

1. Make your passport and visas up-to-date before you venture out to overseas destinations. Do not forget to fill the emergency information page available on your passport. It could be really handy in times of crisis.

2. Learn something about the culture of the place you are going to visit. It would save you a lot of embarrassment and ensure a safe vacation. Learning some key phrases of the local language, such as “help”, can get you out of trouble situations if you are separated from your tour guide. In case you are traveling alone, then hiring a guide who speaks both the languages would be very useful.

3. Walking in a group is safer than walking alone, especially in thinly populated areas. Having company or staying in a group would add to your enjoyments. Thieves and robbers usually target those who travel alone.

4. Always use covered luggage tags and try to avoid putting your home address on an open luggage tag. Your company’s address can be used if you are out on business or you can put your friend’s address on the tag if you are visiting them.

5. Keep your ears open to your inner voice. Be aware of your surroundings and follow your intuition as most of the times it is correct. Women, single parents and older people become easy prey to crimes against tourists. So be alert all the time when you are on your own.

6. Before you check-in, make sure that your hotel or resort is not in a crime-prone zone. Keep the phone numbers of local medical practitioners and the local police, if you are putting up at a luxury resort in a remote location.

7. Try not to bring any valuables such as jewelry or electronic gadgets when you go for vacation. Don’t forget to keep your valuables or money including traveler checks and credit-cards locked away in the safety deposit box provided by your hotel.

8. If you are going for safaris or other adventurous expeditions with your family, then you need to take special care of the children. Make sure that they do not leave your side, as they can become easy targets for predators.

9. Don’t be too adventurous while checking out the exotic local cuisine. If you are not careful, you can end up with allergies, dysentery and other types of infectious diseases. Hence, have food only at those places which appear clean and hygienic. Your tour operator can guide you well in this regard.

10. Take proper care of your baggage. Tourists are often a soft target for thieves and pick-pockets. Spending some amount of money in buying locks would actually be a great idea! Various types of locks such as combination locks, lightweight cable locks and different sizes of padlocks can ensure the safety of your luggage while you travel.

This assortment of useful tips for safe travel will surely make your vacation a wonderful experience that will be fondly remembered all your life!

Thinking in terms of your typical “how to” approach to online business opportunity, those immortal words branded as the “boy scout motto” come to mind. Namely; “Be Prepared.” Just as many a weather beaten “the sea is a harsh mistress” sea fairing captain will tell you (not that I know any, Just speculating here), preparation is the key to weathering any storm.

Online Business Tips #1:

By preparation, I don’t mean to imply that by completing a few tasks here and tying up a few loose ends there, that the job of preparing is something that you can forever leave in your wake.

If anything, the steps you’ll take to prepare to launch your business will be much more like a routine that you’ll maintain to be certain you’ve battened down all your hatches so to speak.

Online Business Tips#2:

Steps like market research to determine income generating potential, financial planning and promotion budgeting, mission statement and company vision; these are all constantly changing values which need to be assessed on a periodic basis.

Much like checking a compass every so often, just to make sure you’re still on course.

These types of measures will make sure that your operation stays afloat and avoids running aground.

Online Business Tips #3:

One of the best pieces of advice I or anyone else can offer to those preparing to embark upon their maiden voyage in online business is this; learn as much as you can from as many different sources as you can before you decide to commit to a particular course of action.

Take a lap around the harbor before you set off around the globe…

Online Business Tips #4:

What I mean quite simple. Take every given opportunity to minimize your risk as well as increase you knowledge base.

I you intend to develop the most incredible product the world has ever seen and completely revolutionize life as we know it. Good for you.

However, you may want to reduce you initial risk by trying your hand at several affiliate programs first. This way, you gain the experience of marketing products without having to invest as much time and money in product research and development.

Taking the same piece of advice a step further, you should definitely invest time and perhaps a few bucks to learn more about how to market a product before you spend any cash on an advertising campaign.

If you stick to these basic guide lines, you’ll quickly find yourself in the favorable position of knowing what to market, how to market it, and how to leverage all the information you’ve gathered to create the greatest return on your investment.

So, don’t just take any one persons word for anything, not even mine (I think), see for yourself. That’s the real beauty of the working online and this new age of information as many call it.

Online Business Tips #5:

A literal fountain of knowledge is constantly available to you, just at your finger tips. All of the information you find may not be as accurate as it could be. But, such is the nature of any medium that allows so many to voice their thoughts and opinions.

It’s really up to you to decide for yourself what pieces of information are useful to you and therefore worth keeping.

I hope that this little blurb has helped to inspire those of you who are still on the fence about taking the plunge and perhaps provided some useful tips for those who are already sailing off into the horizon.

Information’s pretty thin stuff unless mixed with experience.

-Clarence Day

Why would anyone want to holiday on a yacht? Noisy, prone to move without permission, expensive. Worse yet, they make you sick. Not quite the dream holiday you’ve paid for with early mornings, cramped commutes and long interminable office hours. But there’s a ‘but’.

You can look good lounging on your hotel terrace, but you can look fabulous arriving by yacht. The question is how to achieve this without a)blowing the bank, b)getting sea-sick, and c) falling off.

First, yachts don’t need to be expensive. Consider how much you’ll otherwise spend on a hotel. Look at the number of berths on a boat and make sure you fill them. Split down the costs and surprise yourself. The numbers in your party and the berths on the boat are the most important factor. On the whole you’ll find the bigger your party the better rate you can get. A recently booked skippered charter out of Athens for a group of 10 on a 65ft sailing yacht, including all the food and drink (maybe not all the drink), all taxes, fuel and annoying extras came in at 71EURO per head. Not bad.

What else? If you don’t have a yachtie member of your party who can drive the boat then you can easily hire a local skipper for around GBP100/day. If there’s 6 of you that’s about GBP17 per day – not too distressing for a professional tour guide every day and one who’ll take care of the yacht for you.

What about that sick feeling you get as soon as the wind picks up and you’re supposed to be having a ‘good sail’? Well, there are places where you can avoid this. For example the east coast of Greece is almost entirely protected by the Greek mainland mountains, which also create a reliable afternoon sea breeze to waft you gently into the next port. The breeze takes half the day to develop so you can get in some proper sun-bathing time in the morning or just visit the picturesque town you’ve berthed in, then you can go for a sail (little waves only) in the afternoon. And best of all, once the sun goes down, so does the wind. Just in time to enjoy a gin and tonic sundowner, not a hair out of place. Who’s the yachtie now?

If you holiday in the winter then top up on the tan in those long, wan winter months by visiting to the British Virgin islands. Protected waters, sunny, food and drink at every stop, blue waters and bath-temperature seas. Not to mention stunningly beautiful coral reefs. A trip to the BVIs in November or December followed by skiing in March (or the other way around) must be the ultimate ‘winter blues’ remedy.

Any other top tips? Well, for the Caribbean I can recommend a catamaran, not a monohull, charter. It’s cat country out there. Cat’s are faster, more stable, have more space and have a much more ‘normal’ layout if you’re not used to yachts. The Med is slightly different. There a catamaran can be more trouble than its worth when you arrive when trying to find a space in those tightly packed meditteranean town quays. Still, it is possible and if you’re keen for a cat and also hiring a skipper then you can let him worry about those kind of details. A good local skipper will find the space in every town quay however packed it may look.

So next time you come back from holiday, don’t say “i’m just back from holiday”, try “i’ve been holidaying on my yacht”. Well, it is yours for a week or two. Now how does that sound?

Planning for a great sailing vacation in the US? Always make your safety, comfort, and legalities as the main priorities. For those who don’t have any sailing experience in the US or to any other part of the world, it is best to rent a crewed boat wherein everything will be provided to you. The crew will ensure your safety because they are experienced enough to handle all kinds of emergencies in the middle of the sea.

A crewed boat also ensures that you have everything that you need from accommodation, food, and even entertainment are available. Here, all you have to do is to sit back and relax and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings while listening to the relaxing waters as it laps to the side of the boat.

If you want more adventure, opt for a bareboat. A “bareboat” is a boat that you can rent filled with all the things and amenities needed for sailing without the crew. If you go on sailing vacations in the US using bareboat, it means that you need to have sailing experience.

If you think that your knowledge in sailing is not enough despite your experience, you can enroll in various sailing lessons to enrich the information that you have. During lessons, you will be given first hand information on sailing and hands-on experience on it. It is always best to attend sailing lessons before going on sailing vacations in the US to ensure that you would know what and what not to do especially in cases of emergency.

Packing tips for sailing vacation in the US

Aside from educating yourself about your sailing destination, one of the things that you should consider before going on sailing vacations in the US is what are the things to pack. Bringing the things that you need would ensure that you will not miss out on something that is an integral part of your whole trip.

The following are just some of the things that you need to pack for sailing vacations in the US:

1. Travel documents – Since you’ll be going to another territory, you will need documents that will support your identity such as passport and the sailing charter paperwork. Upon booking for sailing vacations in the US, you will be given a confirmation packet.Bring photocopies of your travel documents in case of emergency or in cases it will be needed during visit to different islands.

2. Storage – This should always be kept in mind because you need to limit it as much as possible. Bear in mind that hard-sided suitcases are not ideal since they are big and bulky. Opt for durable duffel bags because these can be folded when not in use.

3. What to wear – Depending on the average weather condition of your vacation destination, the number of clothes should also be kept to a minimum. It is ideal to keep a pair of shorts, shirts, walking shoes, sandals, swimsuit, underwear sleepwear, toiletries, and towels. The number will depend on the number of days of your stay.

4. Easy to carry bag – This is vital especially if you sailing vacations in the US involve land tour or travel. This easy to carry bag will hold your basic necessities such as wallet with money, a pair of shades, passport, several guide books, bottled water, a bottle of sunscreen for sun protection, powder case, lip balm and other small items you will be needing outside.

Here’s a quick and handy guide to help you brush up your sailing skills.

Sea sickness – If you?re feeling a little under the weather don’t struggle up into to the top bunk. The best way to help you feel better is to stay low! The motion is less evident there. Try to stay horizontal, and if there are no sea berths onboard, throw some cushions on the floor and lie there. You?ll feel better in no time.

Think tank – Your tank may look full, but many yachts will come to a surprising halt even when the fuel level gauge looks full to burst. The best thing to do is to run a column in your log book for your engine. Keeping a check of fuel fills and oil changes means there will be no more guess work.

Stormy weather – Bad weather is a common worry for sailors. The most effective method of avoiding the effects of bad weather at sea? Avoid sailing altogether. Check local weather forecasts before setting out and try not to sail for a few days after a storm. Inevitably there will be times when getting caught in bad weather is unavoidable. So, it?s therefore essential to know how to keep your crew and boat safe.

Look no hands – You?d be surprised how many people only use auto pilot on passage. Having a free hand to stow a sail or prepare lines is really useful, especially for a small crew. Just remember to make a point of keeping an eye on what?s going on around the boat at all times.

Boom Boom – It?s important to respect the boom. The most common sailing injuries are a result of not being aware when the boom is about to swing. To avoid injury or being knocked overboard, remember to be conscious and respectful of the boom at all times.

A steady course – You’re out at sea and a ship is approaching. You are the give way vessel. All you need to do is make a slight alteration to ensure a collision does not take place. But imagine how the skipper of the other ship feels. He’s wondering whether you’ve made the safest decision. The answer? Show him your sidelight if it’s dark. If it’s light, 20 or 30 degrees and a steady course should put his mind at rest.

Knot to be forgotten – Good sailing knots are essential to sailing. The figure eight knot is a good stopper knot. The figure eight will ensure, especially in windy weather, the jibsheet and the mainsheet remain in the cabin. Other useful knots to learn are the bowline, clove hitch, round turn and two half hitches and the reef knot.

While its dazzling white beaches are not much different from those you will find on a dozen other Caribbean islands, Jamaica’s remarkably dense tropical landscape and soaring Blue Mountains, with their perfect coffee-growing terrain, has far more than the sun, ocean, and sand, to recommend it as a cruise destination. Jamaica has more than 100 rivers plunging and tumbling from their mountain sources on their way to the sea, miles of hiking and equestrian trails, and jungle canopy tours to appeal to the most adventuresome cruise enthusiasts.

Jamaica’s beach resorts are, of course, its most popular tourist destination. Seven Mile Beach at Negril, on the island’s westernmost point, is famous for its rugged cliffs and unforgettable sunsets. Negril, however, lacks a harbor, so your sailing cruise ship will have to leave from one of Jamaica’s three ports-of-call.

Jamaica’s northern coast is where you find Mo’ (for Montego) Bay and Ocho Rios, its two busiest resort towns. Montego Bay is home to the “Hip Strip,” formerly known as Gloucester Avenue, where you will find plenty of shops, restaurants, and clubs. If you want a natural healing experience, you could head for the mineral springs at Montego Bay’s Doctor’s Cave Beach.

A more family-friendly port-of-call, Ocho Rios is home to one of Jamaica’s biggest craft markets, along with an abundance of duty-free shops and a generally more relaxed lifestyle. Perhaps the most stunning of all Jamaica’s three ports-of-call, however, is its smallest one. Port Antonio, on Jamaica’s north east coast was, in days gone by, a magnet for Hollywood elite and the favorite hideaway for Errol Flynn.

Far removed from its three most popular ports of call is Jamaica’s capital city of Kingston, which is also the largest English-speaking city in the Caribbean. Jamaica has a rather turbulent history, beginning with its reputation for harboring pirates centuries ago.

Most Jamaican sailing cruises are scheduled between January and March, which is also Jamaica’s peak tourist season. You probably will not be able to book a Jamaica sailing cruise between July and November, when the heat, heavy rains, and possible cyclone conditions make it too dangerous to sail.

When making arrangements for your Jamaica sailing cruise, pay attention to the legal details. Once you have reached Jamaica, you will have to let customs know that you have arrived and give them access to your ship for inspection. They will ask you, or whoever is managing your Jamaica sailing cruise, to supply information which includes your cruise ship’s registration, team list and affirmation, a record of the ship’s stores, and your departure permission. While many amateur sailors arrive at Jamaica in their own yachts, the great majority of tourists taking Jamaican sailing cruise vacations simply rent their boats. Most of these sailing cruises last between seven and 10 days, departing from Montego Bay, the site of Jamaica’s airport. Negril, however, is another ideal departure point for a Jamaica sailing cruise.

You have a choice of three different types of ships for your Jamaican sailing cruise. There are crewed charters, skippered bareboats, and, if you are an accomplished sailor, bareboats. If you’re new to Jamaica, getting a skippered or crewed boat will ensure that your sailing cruise hits the largest number of attractions. Having a crew on board will also give you as much free time as you like to enjoy Jamaica’s remarkable beauty!

The whole nine to five thing has come and gone. That ship has sailed people, especially in the 21st century time clock for the busy professional. We have no time for anything. Meetings can come in unearthly hours, we get paged through lunch and a disaster can rear its ugly head even when we decide to visit the lavatory. Think I’m kidding? I was running helter skelter for a few months AND was trying to keep fit at the same time. It was a nightmare, no sooner had I kept my shoes in the bag did I get a call from my boss. That is until someone gave me a few tips to keep fit while maintaining my busy schedule. Let’s examine 4 exercising tips for the busy professional.

Tip No. 1 Schedule, schedule, schedule.

The best person to do this is you. Don’t get caught up in the rush of your work without taking the time for yourself. Have an organiser? Use it. Mark down at least three times a week when you think you have at least 1-2 hours to yourself and use it. Commit to this timetable and make sure you have ‘backup schedules’ just in case something goes awry. Find yourself on a day when you have an hour of your time free? Run or do a power walk.

Tip No. 2 The non-traditional exercise.

Walking is a workout. So is climbing up the steps. If you find yourself at home, do some housework, cycle around your neighbourhood or just go and do some heavy shopping. It all adds up in the end. Working out doesn’t mean you have to do it in the gym. The world can be your gym if you really have no time to pop by and your commitments are mounting. Every little bit can add up to a good workout in the end.

Tip No. 3 Goal Setting

Set yourself some realistic goals and stick to them. It could be something as small as losing 5 pounds a month. Then you have something to work to. It adds a bit of urgency into your schedule and gives you that extra edge you need to push yourself that much faster.

Tip No. 4 Work out at Home

Work out at home. Or if you have an office that would put a football field to shame, then work out in the office. For the normal white collars, I would recommend placing one or two space-saving, inexpensive machines for you to use when you get home. There is no excuse if the equipment you need is just in the next room. Also, the internet has become a valuable tool for the busy professional looking for a healthy lifestyle. The last exercising tip I will give you. Get online and start watching fitness online videos.

I have compiled a wide list of videos and articles on fitness and exercise that I share with anyone who needs them.

Try these exercising tips and you will see improvements to your body in no time.

For many people all around the world sailing is the main mean of relaxation. For them nothing is better than the feelings they experience in their confrontation with the untamed nature. Even if sometimes there might encounter some dangers the passion for the sea is more powerful than anything.

When asked what the reasons for which they love sailing are, the sailors usually respond that is the feeling of freedom that takes them further into the seas and oceans. They say that nothing can be compared to the feeling that you are the master of your own boat and of your own destiny.

Because the seas and oceans are the places where people get less into contact they can be considered the most quiet and peaceful environments. Few things, such as the sound of the waves and the birds’ songs, can interrupt the quietness of the sea. That is why many people choose sailing as a way of relaxation and meditation.

Yet, all these pleasures involve some knowledge in this field and also financial in order to purchase all the things needed for a perfect adventure on the water. The first thing that a sailor should do is choose correctly the type of boat he wants to sail.

Two main types of sailing boats can be distinguished: the sailing dinghies and the yachts. There are two differences in these two types of boats. The first one is that the dinghies have a centerboard, while the yacht has a permanent keel. In yachts the ballast is built in the keel, while in the dinghies the human crew should perform as ballast. There are many types of yachts and dinghies, too, so a sailor must ponder well all the advantages and disadvantages of any boat.

For the sailors that love the adrenaline brought by racing special regulations were formulated by International Sailing Federation. Racing Rules of Sailing are the set of regulations that should be respected by all the participants in sailing competitions.

For many people sailing is like a second life, where they can enjoy the quietness, peacefulness, fresh air and serenity of the sea, but at the same time experience the adrenaline when fighting the furious waves and untamed wind.

The first stage in getting more customers is lead generation. You’ve got to identify potential customers and making first contact with them before you can do anything else. Converting all your new potential customers to actual customers is the second stage of growing your customer base, and a separate topic unto itself.

In this multi-part series we’re going to focus on management tips for lead generation first, and then move on to conversion strategies. When it comes to increasing the number of customers you have, you must have a good method of contacting potential new customers or it doesn’t matter how good the rest of your business is.

What follows are 5 of the best traditional advertising techniques available. They are the most effective and most common. Each of these lead generation techniques is an article or a book in itself. Use this list to spark some ideas, and then do a little research into the ones that interest you.

1. Radio & Television Advertising

Radio and television advertising offers a lot of flexibility and has the potential to reach huge audiences.

Television advertising can elicit a very strong emotional response due to the powerful combination of audio and video. Television is excellent for running emotion based campaigns because it is a very intimate advertising medium using both audio and video together.

Like television, radio reaches enormous audiences and offers great potential for emotional response using sound. Unlike television, radio is often listened to at work and in the car. This means that people tend not to go to the bathroom or go make a sandwich during commercial breaks. It also means they may not be paying attention at all when your ad is run. Like television, the time and frequency of the ad is going to be important.

Both radio and television are predominantly useful for consumer advertising (as opposed to business to business) and can be difficult to target to a specific audience. Although the costs can be prohibitive for small to medium sized companies, lower cost local stations can be a good place to introduce yourself to the benefits of radio and television advertising.

2. Newspaper and Magazine Advertising

Newspapers and magazines have very wide distributions and can be very effective places to advertise. Printed media has some advantages over radio and television as newspapers and magazines are often kept around for days, weeks or months and read multiple times.

Newspapers are a good choice for time sensitive advertisements, specific to a local geographic area. Some examples advertising suitable for newspapers are special events, weekend sales, job openings, homes or apartments for rent, etc. Notice that many of these are consumer based advertisements, as opposed to business to business ads. Although newspapers reach a lot of people, they also have a very diverse audience which makes them less effective for targeting specific markets (other than geographic targeting). They have a short shelf-life, but do tend to get read regularly so are great for last minute announcements.

Magazines have a longer shelf life than newspapers, and offer much better opportunities for target marketing. If your product is sailboat winches, then a newspaper ad would probably be ineffective because only a small percentage of newspaper readers sail. An advertisement in “Island Sailing” magazine would be much more effective. Magazines are only purchased by people interested in the specific topic of the magazine, so they are a great way to send a message to a group of people who will be more likely to be interested in what you have to offer.

3. Display Advertising

A billboard or bus shelter advertisement in the right place can get a lot of attention. You can also easily blow your advertising budget with large display ads, so make sure you know what you are doing and you make your message simple and easy to understand in a few seconds.

4. Brochures, Flyers & Leaflets

Brochures, flyers and leaflets can be distributed in a wide variety of ways including door to door, at events and on advertising poster boards. How you distribute them depends on the type of audience you are trying to reach.

5. Direct Mail

Direct mail is sending postcards, or letters to a specific list of people. You need to do some preliminary lead generation before you can use direct mail (so you know who to mail to). Direct mail helps you qualify which leads in a generic leads list may be interested in a specific opportunity. Suppose you have an existing business, and you are about to offer something new. You already have a list of your existing customers, but you have no way of knowing who might be interested in your new offering. A direct mail campaign to your existing customer list could be a cost-effective way to generate leads interested in your new offering without trying to advertise to the whole world. Many high cost advertising firms frown on direct mail campaigns, but there is one simple reason they are still around – they work.

Summary

So there you have the top 5 traditional advertising methods for attracting new customers. Consider who you are trying to reach and choose the ones that work best for you. But don’t stop there, some less traditional methods work every bit as well, and are often overlooked by small and large businesses alike.

In part 2 of this 4 part series we’ll look at some less expensive, yet powerful ways to get your message out.

Your windsurfing performance largely depends upon the quality of your windsurfing kit. However, just buying good windsurfing equipments is not enough. It is essential to maintain the equipments in top condition to generate maximum performance from them. One of the most crucial elements in a windsurfing kit is the sail. To keep the sail in prime form, regular cleaning and revamping is mandatory.

Tips for Sail Cleaning

Keeping your sail spotless and free from dirt is the first step in sail maintenance and key in extending the life of the sail. Usually, windsurfing sails are made of Dacron or nylon and can be cleaned in the following way:

1. Choose a clean and smooth work area to spread your sail for cleaning.

2. Do not use very strong soaps or detergents as they can be harsh on the sail cloth. It is recommended to use mild soaps like ivory soaps or detergents with neutral ph factor would remove the dirt and sand gently. While scrubbing, remember to scrub along the seams with a soft bristle scrub/brush. This would help in removing the dirt without damaging the sail.

3. Always use fresh water to rinse the sail. Using warm water is also a good idea, especially if the sail has some hardened sand or salt residue.

4. One of the most common problems that plague windsurfing sails is mildew, a fungal growth. Sails are often damaged by mildew if they are stored without removing the dirt and are not completely dried. To remove mildew, soak the sail in a solution of bleach (1%) and cold water for two hours and then scrub the stained area with a soft brush. Rinse with clean water and then leave it to dry in a sunny spot. Yet another great way to remove mildew is to soak it in a solution of bleach and water and then rinse and dry it. Then again apply lemon and salt on the stain and leave it to dry for sometime and then rinse it with warm water.

5. It is also a good idea to use disinfectants to remove mildew on Dacron and nylon sails.

6. To remove tougher stains like oil, grease or wax, scrub the stained area with acetone and rinse it. Again scrub it with mild soap or detergent and again rinse it with warm water. Acetone is a great cleansing agent and very effective on tough stains. However, make sure that all the acetone is rinsed out while cleaning the sail.

7. If you have not used your windsurfing kit for a long time, the sail can develop rust stains, which can be difficult to get rid of. For such stains, it is recommended to use oxalic or hydrochloric acid to thoroughly cleanse the sail area. Soak the sail in a solution of warm water and hydrochloric acid (2%) for sometime and then rinse thoroughly with clean water. If using oxalic acid, soak the sail for 15-30minutes before rinsing it.

8. After washing the sail, make sure that it is completely dry before storing it away.

These few simple guidelines can go a long way in keeping your sail clean and in supreme conditions for several years to come.
